2021 Design Awards
Interior designer Kathy McGroarty’s stunning stone room design won 1st place in the Living Room category of the People’s Choice design competition, placing 3rd overall in an interior design competition judged by the general public. The living room also received 2nd place in the Window Treatments category of the 37th Dream Room Awards competition held annually by franchise company Decorating Den Interiors. Kathy is a Window Fashion Certified Professional.
This open concept, voluminous room with 25’ high ceilings and solid stone walls, created a unique design challenge for Kathy and her clients as they desired a warm, inviting and cozy space. The wall of amazing windows necessitated creative solutions for mid-day sun control. Also, the clients requested that there be proper placement for a large Christmas tree with minimal disruption to the furnishing of the room.
Kathy’s client loved the suggestion of a neutral color palette playing up the hues from the stone walls and incorporating soft and varying textures to soften and warm the space. A large sectional in a beautiful, textured velvet and chairs upholstered in soft Sherpa-like fabric added visual interest and softness, creating a cozy gathering area.
